A friend of mine found this place while in town visiting me. I had overlooked it because it is in a strip of storefronts that I do not normally pass. She brought us and we LOVE it. So happy she found it. Great service and delicious food. The staff is so friendly and accommodating . The food is fresh, sangria is delicious, and atmosphere is great. It is a smaller place and they do use all fresh food, so they occasionally run out at the end of busy days! But I am happy to know the food is fresh daily and the staff is smiling and friendly even after a crazy day.

We're there yesterday. Service and food great. Had delicious guacamole and salsa. Husband is vegetarian and waitress guided him through several choices. He got the enchiladas with calabacitas (squash mixture) and loved it. Beans were vegetarian. I had the cheese enchilada, also very good. Pacifica on tap also. We will be back

Great service and great food. I had the fajitas and everyone else at the table had the tacos. Absolutely great experience.

Been twice so far and both times we ordered extra chips and salsa before our meal was even out ( it's $2 per order, not free like most Mexican joints) don't know what it is...but their salsa is just amazing! It's a pretty nice , yet little, very clean new restaurant. I find it to be kinda pricey for Mexican food and the portions you get but our food and our service has been beyond great both times so far so we can't complain. Sangrias are really good and offer a happy hour $2 special on those from 3 to 6pm. Has been added to our dinner spot rotation!

Very good and fresh but somewhat bland in flavor. For a Mexican restaurant I expect bold strong flavors. Even their Salsa was fresh but bland and flavorless.

We loved D'Mexican! From the start, the service was great, super friendly. The sangria was delicious. We just happened to catch it during happy hour, so it was $2 per mason jar. We ordered salsa and guacamole for an appetizer. I loved the unique taste of the roasted tomato flavor in the salsa! The chips were very fresh tortilla chips. We shared the carnitas and the tacos for entrees. The sauce that was served with carnitas was fantastic! Yum! The pork was cooked perfect and the sauce just set it over the top. The tacos were served on homemade corn tortillas (also served with the carnitas) with an awesome blend of meat, topped with the perfect pickled red onions, served with a side of homemade hot sauce that was the perfect heat. We can't wait to return and try other menu items!

We stopped by tonight on our quest to find a new mexican place to eat. I had read a few good reviews on this place, so we decided we had to try it. It was located in a small strip mall. It was kind of a small place with only a few parking spots right off Central. We arrived at 6 pm on a Friday, and we were the second table in the place. We were greeted immediately and sat by our server and hostess. We checked out the menu and found the prices to be a bit high for this style of food. They were just a few bucks more per plate than we are used to seeing. We decided to try some chips and salsa, grilled chicken, and squash enchiladas with mole sauce. The chips and salsa had good flavor, but the salsa was pretty wet. There was a quite a bit of liquid to it. The grilled chicken had great flavor as did the rice and beans. It was served with onions and tomatoes. The squash enchiladas were a great vegetarian dish. Skip the rice if you are a vegetarian as we were told they use chicken stock to cook it. I found it quite flavorful. Make sure you get some of the homemade hot sauce. It had a nice kick to it and smokiness. Our server was very nice and kind enough to explain the vegetarian options to my girlfriend. We felt the food was good, but the one thing we found weird was the fact they were blasting some dance music. Somewhat odd for a Mexican restaurant. Overall, we were happy with our food and service, just found the music a bit out of place. If I am in the area again and hungry for Mexican, I will surely stop by.

My husband and I are vacationing in St. Pete's and went to this location last night. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The hostess/waitress was helpful without being overbearing. My husband had the chile rellenos, and I had the tacos campestres. OMWord!! The tacos were the perfect mix of salty, sweet, spicy, and meaty. The salsa with the chips has an awesome smokey roasted flavor and the salsa with the tacos had great heat without killing my taste buds. It was my husband's first time trying chile rellenos and he was pleasantly surprised with how much he enjoyed them. The batter was light and the chile was smokey and sweet. You can tell that everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients. We are going back to try the tamales before we leave St. Pete's and head back to reality. By far the best place we have eaten in the area this week.

It's good American Mexican but I can't go higher than 3 (three is A-OK, right?) because it's just average. I ordered the shrimp tacos and Friday night about 8 they run out of corn tortillas. How is that possible? The shrimp were very large and cooked perfectly but the accompaniments, flour tortilla, salsa, guacamole, were just okay. So as a whole my meal was okay I just wasn't blown away. The restaurant itself is cute but small. No outdoor seating. Would I try this place again - sure. Would I send a tourist here for the best Mexican food - no.

Great little place on Central near TI & Pasadena. Had the burrito and it was huge. My friends had the carnitas and another steak entree. We all enjoyed our food. Was very fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, they don't have their liquor license, but they do have beer and wine--and sangria. Can't wait to go back!

This is so close to my house and I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately I had a bad experience. First, looking at the dinner menu...this is (mostly) expensive for mexican food. The $9 lunch fajitas came on a plate with 4 small chicken pieces. It was like one taco shell worth, which worked out because they only give you two shells. For for $10 I ate one chicken taco and some rice (that was hard) and beans. This is no deal. The salsa and Guac was inedible to me because it was packed with cilantro. Not a piece here or there...it was overkill. Some people may love this. The quac was all cilantro and onion and it felt like they just used avocado to bind those two items together :/ I don't know if they were running low on avocado but it was a big disappointment. The two person tables are so small you can't fit all your food on it. Sadly I will never go back. I love Mexican food but it looks like I will have to keep driving all the way to Carmelita's.

I tried the Plato Frontera, which is a beef taco, chicken enchilada and chile relleno. I added on a tamal. Personally, I prefer the Tex-Mex style of Mexican cuisine, but this place offers very good, freshly prepared food. The mild salsa-like sauce takes the place of mole and it is fine. The the chips and homemade salsa were excellent. The tamal was moist and tender, the chile relleno was made from a spicy chile pepper and the taco was decent. I overheard the server state that corn tortillas will soon be offered, which IMHO, is superior to the flour tortillas that they now serve. The churros, for dessert, came with a caramel sauce and whipped cream that enhanced the treat. The service was excellent. Overall, a good value.

Every so often I get a craving for Mexican. It never fails this craving is at some stupid hour, so I end up at Taco Bus because they're open. This time around, I was trying to get to a different favorite spot (Alesia) and they were closed because of the holidays or something. I had just bookmarked D'Mexican, they were still open, and they weren't far, so that's where we went. I was a little put off by the location for some reason but I was there and ready for dinner. Our server was incredibly nice. There were only a few other people in the place and a couple of to-go orders, so she was able to chat with us some. The restaurant had only been open a couple weeks so they were probably still finding their rhythm. I ordered a plate that had three tacos with a mixture of meat. It also had a side of rice, beans, a small cup of homemade spicy sauce, and this little scoop of yellow... Stuff. I can't remember the name of it, but it had corn in it and was delicious. The rice and refried beans were good, nothing spectacular, but they never are because they're just simple staples. The spicy stuff was fresh, delicious, and not too overbearing. The tacos though is where it's at. They had some lightly sautéed onions, a great mixture of meats and flavor, and they weren't greasy or heavy. I think this is the first time I've had a fairly large meal at a Mexican place and didn't feel like going into a coma afterwards. The only thing I could hope for is larger/juicier limes and having them add some hibiscus tea/lemonade to their drinks. I'm glad I gave this little place a shot!

The chips and salsa are delicious. My hubby ordered guacamole, $7.50 for chips, salsa, and guac. They don't refill the salsa either. We ordered steak enchiladas with red sauce, my hubby said they were delicious. I had chicken fajitas which were a gigantic portion of onions, peppers, and delicious chicken. All of the produce is fresh and you can taste the difference. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is price. For a casual small Mexican joint, $43 for dinner for two and we only had water is pricey. The service was good but there were only a few people in there at the time. It's also very clean!

  • Thomas A.

The food really is amazing, but the prices are on the upper edge. After tip, we paid almost 70 dollars for two people (chips & queso, shrimp fajitas, tamales, a lemonade, and a sangria). I'm not complaining about the 2 bucks for chips & salsa though...the salsa was a thing of beauty. The sangria is served in a large Ball glass and was one of the best I've ever had. The lemonade was hand prepared with fresh lemons. I found it laughable that they give you (literally) about one teaspoon of guac and sour cream for a plate of fajitas the size of a football. Of course if you want more - you have to upgrade to a full side of guac at an astronomical price. If one is already paying 20 dollars for a fajita plate, don't skimp on the fixins. Bottom line if you want an authentic mexican taste experience, you'll get it here...though the option to smother your tamales in cheese dip is a very Carmelita-esque nod to the local population.

Finally a real fresh, healthy authentic Mexican restaurant thy doesn't just serve Taco's. All you other Mexi-cant's should bow down now because this is a Mexi-can!!!! Wow! Gluten free and no-shit mixed in the bean and meats. Just natural clean local sourced veggies, meats, wild giant prawns, and spices all whipped up real real Mexicans! Put it your mouth and smile. It's D'Mexican! See Pablo and tell him Rizzo sent you. He'll make it worth you while with Bolivian flan drizzled in Carnel.

D Mexican is a gem that is welcome in this area of St. Pete. All their ingredients ate fresh and dishes are made to order. It ranks right up other favorite local Mexican restaurants like VIP.

I am never this harsh, but this place was horrible. FMD got a bone in his chicken burrito. They DO NOT have a vegetarian menu!!!! Seriously this is a Mexican restaurant!!! The rice was dry!!! The only thing worth mentioning is the sangria.

Went there their opening night. What a great little place! Had chips and salsa, tamales, and tacos. Very delicious. Looking forward to checking out their happy hour. $2 drinks 3pm-6pm. Very happy to welcome this place to our neighborhood. Can't wait to become a regular.

Best Mexican food in Pinellas county- hands down! Many try and cannot get it right. Tacos Campestres was heaven. REAL- Salsa (not canned!) fresh & divine. They make everything fresh- no freezer to reheat old items. Small place, but big on flavor, awesome owners/chef/staff. Huge long bar for happy hour specials, but family friendly. As a Mexican-American, this place totally gets the seal of approval, even from mom. I hadn't heard any advertising about this place, so they would be easy to miss if not for yelp. Across from earth origins- in the strip mall. Buen provecho!

WOW!!! Hands down, THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I've ever had (I'm a huge foodie)! I got the Botanas Mixta appetizer which consisted of two beef tacos, two chicken flautitas and two chicken tamales. It couldn't be any better if I were in Mexico itself! AUTHENTIC and absolutely delicious. Everything is made from scratch and you can taste the love in every bite. The only thing they could improve upon is the chips and salsa (but who goes there for just that anyway?). The chips were a bit thick and salty and the salsa was a little watery but very fresh with a wonderful flavor. I can't wait to go back

I didn't give 5 stars because nothing is perfect but if I could give 4 and 3/4 stars for this place, I would. Found through Yelp (Thanks again yelpers!), I spontaneously stopped in at 530pm. If I hadn't used a gps I would have driven past. It's hidden in a strip mall opposite Earth Origins. Which makes me nervous because if no one knows this place is here, the business may not last. It's happy hour so the sangria, served in a mason jar, os only $2 and it beats the hell out of the weak fruit juice and grenadine crap I had in gulfport last night. Being my first time here, the server (who also turned out to ne one of the owners) was happy to educate me. First, they only use fresh local fruits and veggies. Everything is prepared day of, they don't even own a freezer. And don't insult the chef by asking him to Americanize your dish with lettuce and such because he is an artist who takes pride in his work. If it was meant to have lettuce, he would have included it. Actually, all the staff is enthusiastic about their menu. Freshness and quality is key! I'm a hot salsa salsa snob/fanatic. If you want hot, they bring two salsas: the chunky house salsa accompanied by a second bowl of a dark, smooth, dangerous looking concoction. I dumped the dark salsa into the bright bowl of house salsa and it was perfect! The only bad thing about being so fresh is it doesn't keep so you can't take a container home unless you're going to eat it within 24 hours. Then I ordered queso fundido with chorizo...I ate the whole skillet followed by a whole basket of chips, 3 sangrias, and the tacos campestres (suggested by staff). It comes with a unique salsa specifically for the tacos. And it's all steak. No plain ol ground beef here. I'm in love with this place! I'm coming back next week for cinco de Mayo to because the entire menu will be $5 and there will be additional menu items. Plus music and dancing. They are moving the tables out so there is room to dance. I'm excited! Spent the whole time chatting with the owners. Awesome guys! They are opening new places near Baypines and downtown St Pete if the leases come through. I love you Red Mesa but watch out ;) Updated menu included.

Fantastic Mexican food. Wife is from Mexico and even she loved it. I had tacos and she had a steak dish. Both were delicious. The side sauce for the tacos was very spicy/hot, but it was on the side so no problem with controlling how hot you want your tacos. Seating area is small but intimate. Staff was friendly and service was excellent. Will definitely go back again soon.

This place is totally cute! Found it by chance and so happy we tried it. The guacamole and salsa was fresh, tasty sangria, and the fajitas were really super delicious. Chad was our server and he was very attentive...would highly recommend.

  • Bud S.

The food was average. The steak tasted like it was overcooked or maybe it was frozen. I am not sure. The staff was not very attentive. We heard the staff screaming at each other and yelling the "F" word at each other. They were fighting back and forth and cussing really loud. It made me uncomfortable. I will not go back.

  • Madeline S.

I would give them zero stars if I could. The "best sangria ever" that other people mentioned was subpar. I liked that it was $2 but that's it. The queso was bland af. On top of the mediocrity mentioned above, I ordered soft tacos without meat and with beans instead. I was brought tortillas with only beans on them, nothing else. So I very kindly told the server there was some confusion, that I wanted lettuce, etc on them as well. She takes them back to the kitchen, which is within earshot of where I'm sitting, and I hear the cook say "oh hell no" and refusing to accommodate my request. The girl brought back my "tacos" and set them down, expecting me to accept them as is. Needless to say, we paid for our queso and sangria and left.

There was nothing really wrong with this place or the food. I had the macho burrito and it was pretty good - no complaints. The bartender/server was very friendly and was chatty with everyone - a good chatty though. If I had one critique it would be the atmosphere. I think I was expecting a "hole in the wall" type place and it was actually quite new in a strip center. Layout wise it is similar to VIP Room treasure island gulf blvd but lacks the atmosphere. It is what it is though. The Dos Equis on tap was a nice surprise and hit the spot with the burrito. The chips and salsa are very good but the salsa is quite soupy, some people like it that way though...

I rarely do Mexican food but these guys were close, and the reviews were persuasive - and correct! My bartender explained the food was fresh, and he was right. I got the Plato Frontera, a combo dinner. Even the side of refried beans and rice were impressive. Two thumbs up.

We have been looking for true, authentic Mexican food (not Tex Mex) in the St. Pete/Clearwater area and we finally found it! The owner, Nelson, came out to introduce himself to us personally, and the service was excellent (Juan Pablo). The fresh made sangria (including fresh squeezed OJ) was the best we have ever tasted, and the fresh made salsa and guacamole was delicious! The burrito was huge! (See photo). This will be our go-to spot for Mexican from now on. They have only been open about six week, so please give them a try - let's keep this little gem in business!

Walked in and was skeptical since it was after 5:30 and the place was empty except for one guy at the bar. I was highly impressed with the food! The taco campestres was the best! A combination of beef, chicken and sausage on a shell with a special side of hot sauce that made my mouth burn but was a good burn, if you know what I mean! Was disappointed they did not have cheese dip but let's be honest, do we really need it . Glad we found this place and hope my friend Allison and Jessica check it out!

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon to order some takeout for my girlfriend and I. The woman behind the counter was pleasant and offered up some small talk while I waited for my order to come up. My girlfriend wanted the Quesadilla with a side of black beans and rice. Unfortunately they only had refried beans. It seems a little odd to me that they don't offer black beans as well. The order came out quickly (it wasn't very busy, so I wasn't expecting a long wait) and it was hot and looked appealing. Unfortunately when I got it home, I realized that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Both my girlfriends Quesadilla and my Enchiladas were without any flavor. Thankfully we had some salsa and hot sauce at home to help counteract the tastelessness of our meals. I really wanted to have a great experience and was thrilled that there was a locally owned Mexican restaurant so close to my house. However, in the end we won't be returning for any future visits.

Ate here for the first time tonight. The food is excellent! They were happy to accommodate vegetarian substitutions. I had portobello enchiladas with tomatillo sauce which was delicious. I hope they start serving margaritas soon. That was they only missing.

I am from California and I love my Mexican food. I found this place here on yelp and decided to try it based on good reviews and I was not let down. You can taste the fresh ingredients, I had the molé and it was delish. You can't beat the happy hour and the Sangria is great...yumm! Fresh and delicious goodness here. I will definitely be back for more.

Their food was excellent! We are from Southern California and have a high expectation with Mexican food. Most places here in Florida have been a disappointment. Not this place! Good fresh food with nice flavors. I had the Chipotle Shrimp. Yummy! It is a little pricey for Mexican especially in a casual restaurant environment. We had 2 appetizers with 3 adult plate entrees, 1 quesadilla and 3 sodas. Our bill was $74. I would definitely recommend this place. We will be back but not as often as we would like due to the price point.

Wow! Great new restaurant! You have to stop in and check it out. Food is all fresh and locally sourced. Everything is homemade in small batches, so get there early or they might run out. We will be going back SOON! But I'm getting there early, they ran out of dessert tonight, but the food was so good I'm not even mad, lol.

The food is Amazingly yummy!!! I ordered chips,& salsa which you could taste the freshness! For an entree I ordered steak fajitas!!! So yummy the steak was not chewy like most places. The steak was very tender, juicy, & veggies were perfect .It came with the typical rice,& bean fajita plate. An to top it off they had sangria which was 2.00! House made sangria!!! The service from Tina was awesome! If you have not been here stop by even if it's just for the 2.00 sangria, chips,& salas!!! It's def a must in St. Pete!!!

I am skeptical about any restaurant being rated 5 stars but I 100% agree, the food was amazing! Definitely going back....

  • Jeff H.

The only thing keeping this from 1 star is the salsa. Tamales had way to much masa and very little chicken. To make it worse they were reheated in the micro wave and were not very warm on the inside. Beef tacos were good but no sauce was offered with them. Nothing special about this place unless you are there for the happy hour.

I had lunch there yesterday and it was very nice. Their salsa, guacamole, and their chips are all homemade and very inexpensive. The service was great, and my tacos were also very fresh and authentic Mexican. They have homemade sangria that's Delicious. I'll definitely be back!

My wife and I were looking for a new Mexican restaurant that was close to home, and what we found was quite amazing. My wife ordered the carne asada and I ordered the burritos with mole sauce. The carne asada was cooked perfectly and expertly seasoned. My burrito was excellent with a mole sauce that was to die for (not bitter like most). Another standout was the tomalito that is served with each meal. This place is a definite must try. I love me some D' Mexican!

Moved to Fla from NYC 8yrs ago and that is how long it has taken to find a Mexican restaurant that I would return to on a steady basis. Basically, a small "hole in the wall" kind of place in a strip mall. The food was FANTASTIC!!!! You can tell the food is all homemade from the salsa to the refried beans, which btw, were the BEST I have ever eaten. Waitress very friendly and informative, made recommendations from the menu. Highly recommend.

I dined at D'Mexican in March and was delighted! This place has the best Mexican food in St. Petersburg. I found the bar to be comfortable for dining, and our server Tina provided us with friendly & attentive service. If you like fresh, tasty Mexican food - D'Mexican is a must!

The best Mexican food I've had in at least five years and one of the best meals I have had anywhere in the last one year. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean the place is. (This was not the case when a previous restaurant was located here.) The service was flawless today, the portion was quite large, everything was fresh and the flavor was just absolutely wonderful. My server explained that since they buy fresh daily for the kitchen they often run out of things. If you go and they don't have the thing you want on the menu please do yourself a favor and order something else. I assure you it is all good. I found myself in just that situation. I wanted chili rellenos, however they only had one left so I ordered a plate with one chili relleno and two other items plus rice & beans with it: it was all delicious. The salsa was fresh and the flavor of it was wonderful. The portion is deceptive. When I looked at the plate I thought it didn't look like that much but I struggled to finish the meal and that is something that rarely happens to me - it wasn't because the food wasn't good. It was delicious; it was because there was just so much there. The price is perhaps a bit higher than other Mexican restaurants but the quality is far far superior. If Taco Bell is your idea of good Mexican food this is not the place for you: there are lots of places where they pour crap out of a can and just charge you more than Taco Bell does for the same lousy food. This is not one of those places. Everything is fresh, everything is prepared properly, and the quality is well worth a few extra dollars. I I hear they are busy on weekends - like most places. So, beat the crowds and stop for lunch or dinner during the week.

Salsa and guacamole was good. They messed up my order. Then offered hot sauce instead only to charge me for it. I didn't like the red sauce on my burrito. The sangria was nothing out of the ordinary. I wasn't impressed. I'm sure they will improve. They just opened and I know it takes time. However I have had much better Mexican food at other places.

Love this locally owned new spot! What a great little find. The food was fantastic and the staff was great. I had a quesadilla and it was HUGE, exploding with flavor. We also got the chips and salsa and it was fresh and full of flavor. I will be going back! They also had a great happy hour from 3-6pm $2 homemade sangria, which I had to try and $2 domestic beers, you can't beat that. It is a must try!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
